Deadlink is an Arena FPS Roguelike with an emphasis on resource management in a similar vein to Doom Eternal. I got into the game as soon as it was in early access, and became quick friends with the developers and designers at Gruby Entertainment. As I streamed and recorded the game, I would give design and balance advice to the game, to the point that in one of the first updates, the developers named one of the in-game upgrades after my username.Â
In addition to providing this assistance and working with them on some design and balance, after the game released the company had a contest to "Design an Implant", which I quickly got to work making several. The way the game works is you have "Implant Slots" that get activated when you do certain actions, but only low-cost implants could work on some of these actions (activating an implant with weapon swap only works for 1-cost implants for instance). I came up with an idea very early in the game's lifecycle for an implant that would increase the available implants, effectively making it so weapon swap could work with 2-cost implants.
While this design did not win the contest itself, when the game had its next update not only did the winners of the contest get their implants in the game, but the developers also took my idea and made it work with not just 1, but 3 different implants. This has become my first game design that has made it into a video game.
